PanelxPanel #50 - The Big Fifty

4 ratings

PanelxPanel is a multi-nominated and 2019 Eisner-winning magazine about the themes and craft of great comics.

This month, we celebrate fifty issues of the magazine by asking our writers to reflect on some of their favorite comics of the past fifty years, and how they slotted into the comics landscape of the time. Alongside five big essays on Contract with God, Ms. Tree, Karen Berger's Veritgo imprint, Hellboy, Blue Period and Silver Spoon, we have various small features on other hidden gem comics covering the same time period, including some from comic creators. Writers include Avery Kaplan, Douglas Wolk, Ritesh Babu, Tiffany Babb and Rasmus Lykke.

We're also joined by a few special guest writers discussing some of their favorite works, including The Wicked+The Divine and The Eternals' Kieron Gillen, plus writer behind The Seeds, Ruby Falls, Daredevil and many more, Annie Nocenti, writes about Emma Ríos' I.D., and previous exec editor of Vertigo comics - as well as editor on series like Bitter Root, Punks Not Dead, Euthanauts (and more) Shelly Bond on Lapham's Stray Bullets.

In our Regulars, David Padovani dives into Chris Claremont's X-Men, Tom Shapira on Dredd, a big interview with Dracula, Motherf**ker and Assassin Nation's Erica Henderson, a short comic, and more.
