PanelxPanel #2 - Redlands
PanelxPanel is a new digital magazine celebrating the medium of comics. It’s edited by Strip Panel Naked host, Hass Otsmane-Elhaou, and features a rotating set of writers ranging from critics to professionals, fans and comic stores.
Each issue has two halves across it's 70+ ad-free pages. The first, a focus on a particular comic and featuring a series of essays, interviews, process pieces and an exclusive Strip Panel Naked column all focused around that comic. The second issue covers Image Comic’s Redlands, by Jordie Bellaire, Vanesa Del Rey and Clayton Cowles. Also released on the same day as this magazine, August 9th.
The second half features regular articles, with creator-on-creator interviews, craft essays, a short comic, and a series of comic recommendations from a range of comic-related voices.
This is a true celebration of the medium with every issue, looking at all the elements that make comics an interesting art form and great place to tell visual stories. This is a magazine that cares about comics.
This second issue features an interview with writer/colorist Jordie Bellaire and artist Vanesa Del Rey. Alongside that is a process article from letterer Clayton Cowles on designing the style for the book. There's also an exclusive Strip Panel Naked article, and two feature essays on storytelling themes in the magazine.
For the regular features, artist Eric Zawadzki (The Dregs) dives into how he takes a script to layouts to finished page. Rob Williams (Suicide Squad, Unfollow) interviews Chris Weston (The Filth, 2000AD) about his process. Plus we've got our Final Thoughts column on one of the best superhero endings. There's also a short comic, and a whole host of recommendations from writers, artists, fans, critics and shops.
